Controlled assessment means that there is potentially less regular homework than at KS3. Most homework will be completing revision notes begun in class, background research and revision for examinations.

Parents will be notified when ISA coursework for GCSE qualifications and Coursework catch-up sessions for BTEC will take place to ensure attendance. Y10 ISAs and BTEC catch-up sessions will take place on 6th February, 2013 (during PSE day 2) and in designated lessons.

Controlled Assessment Art & Design
Year 11 – Spring term (Jan)
There will be 1 or 2 exam paper questions per unit. This will be set as the unit progresses to allow students to cover the content needed for each question. These will form part of the assessment for the unit and will be reported in the data collections. At the end of each topic, one homework will consist of learning/revision in preparation for an end of topic assessment. The frequency of these will vary by year group and group within year (according to timetabled hours). This is approximately 1 homework per fortnight.
For one of the Year 10 classes a Controlled Assessment will take place in 2nd half of the Summer term (depending on changes on GCSE syllabus). The students have up to 8 hours of planning and research time (moderate control) Homework will be to continue planning and research. There will also be 3 hours of write up time (high level control) during which no homework will be set.
The other Year 10 class will begin working on an additional course and homework will consist of researching themes related to this course.
Pupils will receive 1 homework task each week lasting up to 1 hour
GCSE Creative design
Year 9 – One per week Food Technology – During the transition period students are expected to bring in ingredients and a food storage container once a week.
Year 10 – One per week until controlled assessment. Food Technology students will be required to bring in ingredients and a food storage container once a week. Year 10 controlled assessment will take place in the summer term. Homework during this time will be mainly research. If work needs completed this must be done during lunchtimes or after school catch up sessions.
Year 11 – Controlled assessment will continue into year 11. Pupils will be expected to conduct research at home. If work needs completed this must be done during lunchtimes or after school catch up sessions.
Food Technology students will be required to bring in ingredients and a food storage container once a week.
Spring term – coursework will be complete therefore preparation for the exam will begin. Homework will be set once per week. The work set will be revision tasks.

4 controlled assessments to be completed in Year 10: Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms. Year 11: Autumn term.
This involves drafting, amending and memorising either a 300 word written piece or a 4 minute spoken piece.
At KS4 homework is given to enhance or consolidate understanding. The setting of homework is very fluid depending upon pupil’s prior experience and understanding demonstrated in lessons, as well as the topic itself. Homework can also be set depending upon ability and whether or not the pupil is taking a higher or foundation Geography examination. The homework content is also largely dependent upon which topic the pupils collectively choose to do as there are a lot of option choices at KS4. For example, Ice on the Land was chosen in 2011, but the Living World in 2012.
In year 9, 10 and 11 pupils will continue their GCSE and complete exam questions to consolidate learning and work on exam technique. As each assessment approaches they will be asked to revise in preparation. There are various case studies that will be completed over the course that are compulsory expectations of the examination board Once GCSE content begins it is incredibly important that pupils catch up on any missing work, this becomes homework for those pupils and it is their responsibility to ensure that they know what they have missed and ensure they ask for the relevant work.
Controlled Assessment – There is a controlled assessment in Geography. In the low level control, it is expected that pupils research their location of study, produce appropriate data presentations and complete unfinished class work. Pupils are not allowed to bring in pre written responses to their high level controlled assessment task
Missed Homework Policy – If homework is missed a note will be made on the front of their subject books, if homework remains undone and pupils persist on not completing homework letters and phone calls home will be made.
Year 9- Transition groups should expect at least 1 research based homework in the 2nd/3rd week. After options are taken History groups should expect 2 per half term. This will take the form of a past-paper question or a larger research task.
Year 10- homework to be set approx. 3 times per half term. Homework will usually be research but may be a question from a past-paper where appropriate. Year 11-depends on results. If re-sits are being taken then homework will be revision based and completing past-paper Questions’s after Christmas in the lead up to exam season.
Controlled assessments Year 9/10-no Controlled Assessment
Year 11- Any pupils re-sitting will be taking a controlled assessment starting in late September/October. This is split up into three chunks and will be on-going into November/December.
1 Hour of musical instrument practice per week, logged into the performance log booklet. (signed off by a parent)

This will usually involve taking photographs outside of the school environment, in order to enrich their portfolio.

The course is largely coursework/portfolio building. Therefore much of the homework will be based around this. There will be deadlines for each piece and homework should be used to ensure students meet deadlines. Further homework will be given to resubmit work after a deadline has been met and work needs to be improved to achieve the target grade for each student.
Pupils are working on a vocational qualification They are set a series of assignments during the course of each unit which have a strict deadline. It is expected that each pupil will spend up to 1 hour at home each week working on their assignment.
