British Values

As a school we promote the fundamental values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We challenge opinions and attitudes that could undermine such values and we promote what it means to be a British citizen in the 21st century.

We do this through a variety of methods, including

  • Personal Development days which cover all aspects of British Values in a variety of engaging eays
  • In English KS3 units on crime and disorder deal with different cultures and decision making.  The Y9 unit focuses upon war from the viewpoint of  personal beliefs
  • Our attitude to learning grades which focus upon participation, politeness and working with others
  • Our behaviour system which focuses upon accepting responsibility for getting things wrong
  • Our democratically elected Student Council who have a real impact in the school
  • In Food Technology where students use food to look at different cultures and traditions and their influence on our cuisine
  • Charitable work, determined by the student council encourages participation and active citizenship
  • Society and Ethics lessons which focus upon world religions, ethical issues and tolerance
  • Our anti-bullying policy which was co-written by students
  • Our SMSC tree which records student feedback about issues such as British citizenship, covered on Personal Development days
  • Our school ethos which aligns with British Values to develop our students as valuable members of the community.
