Annual School Walk

Our annual half marathon walk took place on Friday 25 September with all 440 students taking part. In recent years it has become traditional for Year 11 to complete the walk in fancy dress and we saw some wonderful costumes this year!

In the past, funds raised have been used to support school activities. However, this year, the Student Council requested that the school supported good causes. In response to this, our students nominated over 30 charities and we chose 4 for this academic year:

  • Dove House Hospice
  • Macmillan Nurses
  • Water Aid
  • Save the Children

50% of money raised by each House will go to their chosen charity and 50% will be used to develop/improve areas of the school (selected by the Student Council).

Mr Harrison, the new Headteacher at TMWS said

‘The walk provides an important opportunity for all members of the school community to engage in a shared experience; allowing students of different year groups to integrate and for students and teachers to mix in a less formal way’. He went on to say that ‘he thoroughly enjoyed the walk, the weather was perfect and the students were a credit to themselves and their families. Several individual students had raised a significant amount of money which will give us a great start of several hundred pounds for each house charity’

The Market Weighton School walk is a long standing tradition with many of our student’s parents able to recall their experiences.
